ASL operated as geo-environmental consultants for this development in Rugby, Warwickshire. The site comprised 0.4 hectares of brownfield land formerly used for ferrous and non ferrous scrap metal recycling for some 70 years.
These activities were completed under a waste management license for the last ten years of operation only. The site was proposed to be redeveloped for a residential end use comprising apartment accommodation.
The works completed by ASL comprise the following:
Review of previously completed reports, historical data, the site’s environmental setting and current land use
Site wide intrusive investigation and delineation of identified contamination
Design of chemical testing regime to characterise the site conditions and investigate potential contamination issues
Interpretation of results for both contamination and geotechnical issues
Develop quantitative risk assessment for controlled waters
Design a remediation strategy for the site
Complete remediation works involving:
Excavation of soils for off site disposal
Monitoring and removal of free phase hydrocarbons
Groundwater quality monitoring programme
Liaison with regulatory authorities to obtain sign off of the relevant planning conditions and for the surrender of the waste management license.
