ASL operated as geo-environmental consultants for this brownfield development in Belvedere, south-east London. The site was formerly occupied by an armour plating manufacturer and was proposed for commercial redevelopment.
Contamination issues relating to the former uses of the site and the presence of above ground fuel storage tanks in relation to a local drainage ditch were addressed to the satisfaction of statutory regulators. Geotechnical issues were also covered as the site is underlain by significant thicknesses of alluvial clays.
The works completed by ASL comprise the following:
Review of previously completed reports and the site’s environmental setting
Design and implementation of a supplementary intrusive investigation to target identified potentially contaminative structures and to define design parameters for foundation design
Design of chemical testing regime to characterise the site conditions and investigate potential contamination issues
Interpretation and qualitative assessment of results for contamination issues
Liaison with regulatory authorities to obtain sign off of the relevant planning conditions
